The George, Oldbury and The Court Oak, Harborne with The Real Junk Food Project Brum

Project: The Real Junk Food Project Brum
Nominated by: The George, Oldbury and The Court Oak, Harborne
Total Investment: £2,473

TRJFPBrum was established with the aim of raising awareness about food waste and to redirect food surplus to prevent its wastage. They are a self-sustaining Community Interest Company that relies heavily on volunteers, often upskilling unemployed and vulnerable people into roles with the organisation. They ask people to participate by contributing money, time or skills in return for food. TRJFP Brum run a waste food café and food box delivery scheme, which both operate on a “pay-as-you-feel” basis. When they possess a large surplus of waste food, they distribute it to charities like Women’s Aid and Homeless Heroes.

This was a joint nomination from 2 of our pubs, The George and The Court Oak. The funds were used to purchase cargo bike and custom-made trailer, to use for their surplus food collections and deliveries.

The pub couldn’t have done it without the help of our Sizzling guests!
