Project: The Weelsby Woods Beautification Project
Nominated by: The Grosvenor, Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire
Total Investment: £4000
Friends around Weelsby are a volunteer group who work to maintain Weelsby Woods, a local beauty spot set in the heart of Grimsby consisting of 130 acres of woodland and grassy areas, which has important cultural links to the town’s past. Following cuts to local government budgets, the group have come on board to carry out essential maintenance work and where possible make improvements. In recent years they have raised money on various projects, including for the installation of a defibrillator in the woods.
The pub fundraised an incredible £2,000 to go towards this project. The funds were used to purchase wooden animal carvings, benches and wildflower seeds. The carvings are synonymous with Weelsby Woods and are an obligatory photo opportunity for any visitor.
Staff from The Grosvenor and local residents volunteered at the park in May 2019, scattering the wildflower seed and doing a litter-pick.
The pub couldn’t have done it without the help of our guests!
