Hunting Lodge, Whitley Bay with the Whitley Bay Community allotments

Project: Whitley Bay Community allotments – Create Community Orchard
Nominated by: Hunting Lodge, Whitley Bay & Monkseaton Arms
Total Investment: £1145

Whitley Bay Community Allotment is a community garden, run by volunteers, that supports and encourages local residents to manage a small plot where they can grow organic fruit and vegetables without the commitment of having to maintain a large plot on their own. They provide tools and share knowledge of growing.

Funding invested in fruit tree saplings for their new community orchard, as well as growing frames and a lawnmower. Staff from both Sizzling pubs helped to plant saplings in late March. They planted 30 fruit trees where fruit can be picked and used by the local community. Nothing of this sort exists in the local area, making it a valuable asset to the local plot users and the wider community.

Sizzling and Carling staff volunteered their time on 1st April 2019 to help plant the trees and sow grass seed.

These pubs couldn’t have done it without the help of their Sizzling guests! Visit them today to see what else is going on at The Hunting Lodge.
